Immigration to the U.S. is at an all-time high

- The share of immigration to the U.S. increased significantly since the 1960s because of the replacement of a national quota system. However, it is still not as much as un the late 19th century.
- The foreign-born population in the U.S. is higher than ever, but the share of foreign-born population is not as high. Today immigrants are almost triple the share of population as it was 50 years ago.
- Three quarters of immigrants are lawful immigrants, while a quarter is unauthorized.
- Mexico, China, and India make up the top places for where immigrants in the U.S. are from.
- Among new immigrants, Asians surpasses Hispanics in terms of their share of new immigrants.
- Immigrant population is expected to grow by double the amount in 50 years.
- Refugees consists of a very small proportion of immigrants.
- Most immigrants like in large metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles and New York.
